FAQs

This is a weekend of outreach and engagement in the Greater Cleveland area organized by Thrive for Change for the weekend of Overdose Awareness Day. It runs from Friday, August 29 to Sunday, August 31, 2025.

International Overdose Awareness Day is a global event held on August 31st each year since 2001. Its purpose is to raise awareness of overdoses, reduce the stigma of drug-related deaths and acknowledge the grief felt by families and friends.

Narcan or naloxone is the medication that reverses an overdose.

Anyone can get trained to carry and administer narcan/naloxone to save a life! Join us at one of our outreach events during the Overdose Awareness Weekend to get trained and receive free Naloxone. Can’t make it out? Visit the Order Supplies page on our website to watch a training and get free supplies, including Naloxone, sent to you.

  • Keep records of how many people received naloxone
  • Setting up and breaking down outreach tables
  • Taking photos and videos

  • Any other tasks that arise during the events

Nope! No experience is required. You’ll receive training on Naloxone (Narcan) use if needed. All outreach supplies will also be provided to you, like a table, tablecloth, table signs, and Naloxone.

Volunteers are asked to provide:

  • Full name, email, phone number, and zip code
  • Availability (dates and times)
